Job Description
A Lead Security Officer is responsible for protecting and serving MUSC Health Pee Dee Division patients, staff, and visitors, in addition to monitoring and protecting facilities and assets, across the Pee Dee Division. Security Officers monitor and operate access control systems, security camera systems, intercoms, two-way radios, telephones, and alarm systems.
Lead Security Officers often perform the following duties daily:
* Patrol facilities and grounds,
* Provide emergency assistance and response,
* Interact with patients, families, visitors, law enforcement and correctional officers.
* Support MUSC Health staff with issues involving security and safety concerns.
* The individual must complete detailed notes based on observations, conduct security investigations and interviews, and write detailed reports regarding incidents and events.
Education:
* Education Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience :
* Minimum One (1) year relevant experience or appropriate preferred education requirements.
* Preferred Experience in healthcare security, corporate security, or law enforcement.
* Licenses & Certifications Minimum Valid driver’s license in the State of SC.
* Completion of IAHSS Basic Certification within six (6) months of hire. Preferred
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
* Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism.
* Must possess a strong desire and ability to provide a high level of customer service through engagement with others.
* Ability to don and wear personal protective equipment, such as gloves, face shields, goggles, gowns, masks, powered air-purifying respirator, and if necessary, issued ballistic vest protection while on duty.
* Ability to use radio equipment for communications.
* Ability to quickly respond to emergent situations.
* Skill in verbal communications, especially listening and recalling information during high stress conditions.
* Skill in written communications including the ability to type accurate and detailed reports efficiently, recalling actions taken during emergencies and critical incidents.
* Knowledge of crime prevention strategies.
* Ability to detect, locate, and report smoke, unusual odors, and running water which may indicate safety problems.
* Knowledge of and skill with computer systems, including spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, alarm systems, access control software, and surveillance cameras.
* Maintain BLS Certification.
* Knowledge of verbal and non-verbal tactics to safely de-escalate individuals. Ability to use de-escalation strategies, trained control techniques, and the application of restraints as trained. (Successfully complete 16 hours verbal and physical Handle with Care Crisis De-escalation course. Must be able to successfully complete the physical components defense and restraint tactics as described in the Handle with Care Curriculum.)
* Knowledge of security practices used in safeguarding persons and property.
* Complete MUHA Security training requirements provided by MUSC Health Pee Dee Division and appropriately perform the responsibilities of a Lead Security Officer.
