The Devices team is seeking a talented, self-directed Software Developer\nEngineer to join a team owning a wide array of highly impactful speech and\nlanguage applications in every language, providing thousands of customers the\nability to interact with Alexa in the most natural way possible by building and\nenhancing NLU models. Key job responsibilities\n- Gather requirements, owning the high and low level design, and code services\nfor the production of Machine Learning/AI tools (using Java and Python)\n- Responsible for the ongoing testing and maintenance of products - improving\nthe reliability of tools and fill in tooling gaps opportunistically (using\ninternal AWS tooling)\n- Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against\ntight schedules\n- Partner with other team members (Data Scientists, Research Scientists,\nLanguage Engineers, SDEs, BIEs, Product and Program Managers) to investigate\ndesign approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility\n- Responsible for on-call duties during peak and non-peak hours, deploying\nfixes, and handling high-sev issues with Language Engineers and Scientists (1\nweek every 2-4 months) About the team\nThe team is based in Turin (IT), peer teams are in Bangalore (IN) and Boston\n(US). Basic Qualifications: - Experience programming with at least one\nmodern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design\n- Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design\npatterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems\n- Fluency in written and spoken English (CEFR B2 + level)\n- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full\nsoftware development life cycle, including coding standards, software\narchitectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments,\ntesting, and operational excellence Preferred Qualifications: - Track record of\nbuilding and delivering mission critical, 24x7 production software systems\n- Experience with statistical modelling / machine learning with a willingness to\nbe an early adopter of emerging ML and big data applications\n- Interest in improving self-service tools and effectiveness\n- Comfortable with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering measurable\nresults in a dynamic environment working across multiple teams and organization Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
