Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Sales and Business Development Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Naples or Pistoia, Italy.

Accountabilities

We are seeking a Sales Manager responsible for supporting Hitachi Rail’s expansion into the European and domestic railway markets. This includes leading bids for project opportunities and providing technical support during pre-bidding phases. The role involves:

* Identifying contacts and generating leads with prospective customers and partners
* Scouting for and identifying new business opportunities, markets, trends, customers, partners, products, and services
* Supporting market and industry segment analysis
* Understanding customer needs and developing plans to meet them, setting objectives to develop and improve the business
* Providing technical value in pre-bidding discussions, understanding Hitachi Rail’s product portfolio and industrial processes
* Supporting market dialogues and RFI activities, leading responses to customer questionnaires, and liaising internally as needed
* Supporting negotiations and contract acquisition during bidding
* Contributing to R&D roadmap and portfolio management by identifying technology trends and product needs
* Aligning promotional strategies and activities with management and marketing teams, including attending seminars and conferences
* Supporting the corporate approval process according to standards and procedures
* Complying with Hitachi Rail’s Health and Safety policies
* Undertaking other duties as required

Required Skills / Knowledge

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

* Minimum 5 years’ experience in railway sales, business development, or project management roles
* Experience with procurement/bidding portals or data analysis systems
* Tenacity, initiative, strategic thinking, and target-driven mindset
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong networking abilities
* Stakeholder relationship management skills
* Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
* Willingness to travel within Europe
* Willingness to relocate to Naples or Pistoia
* Experience in the rolling stock passenger sector
* Experience in international markets
* Engineering background with train technical knowledge
* Experience with TCO evaluation models
* Knowledge of railway transportation markets and models
* Understanding of health and safety requirements

Education / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Economics with relevant industrial experience

Languages

* Fluent in English
* Additional European languages (French, German, Spanish) are a plus
