Senior Business Development Manager – Energy Storage Business

The position is permanent and remote, based in Italy.
What you will be doing
We are seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to work within Italy and our European growth markets. You will lead energy storage sales for cross-functional teams, ensuring predictable, profitable sales and successful project execution.
You will report to the Area Sales Director.
Your responsibilities include:
* Leading energy storage sales from initial bid to contract award and execution
* Vetting customers and opportunities for resource efficiency
* Managing key account relationships
* Developing pricing strategies and accurate cost estimations
* Leading stakeholders and sales teams to meet business goals
* Using S&OP data for cost and schedule assessments
* Ensuring detailed understanding of tenders and project requirements
* Evaluating and mitigating risks
* Conducting internal reviews and obtaining approvals
* Following Wärtsilä contracting policies and securing proper contract terms
* Leading contract negotiations and developing sales strategies
* Reporting project sales progress in CRM (Salesforce)
* Ensuring smooth transfer of sales to project execution teams
Qualifications and skills for success
* At least 5 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy, preferably with battery energy storage
* Commitment to safety
* Proven leadership in high-performing, cross-functional teams
* Solution-oriented mindset
* Experience negotiating complex sales projects
* Contractual and risk management expertise
* Strong influencing and communication skills
* Ability to lead by example and foster collaboration
* Broad understanding of energy storage solutions and market outlook
* Commercial acumen and customer focus
* Excellent teamwork and coaching skills
* Results-driven with planning and change management skills
* Ability to inspire action towards goals
* Appreciation for diversity and fostering psychological safety and inclusion
* Willingness to travel (approximately 20%)

Some travel is required to meet with customers globally, but most meetings are virtual.
