Job Description Summary
Avio Aero, a GE Aerospace company, designs, produces, and maintains components and propulsion systems for civil and military aviation. We focus on excellence in aeronautical mechanical transmissions for helicopters and VTOL applications. We seek an engineer to perform design activities with a focus on static structures design within the New Product Introduction process from concept to product definition, certification, and initial production support.
Job Description Essential Responsibilities
* Provide and strengthen technical knowledge in complex aeronautical gearbox static structures components (e.g., light alloy housing castings, adapters, forgings).
* Capture system level requirements (engine/aircraft) and flow-down to component definitions with deep integration (cored fluidic lines, load path definition, critical geometry).
* Design components, evaluate alternatives, agree on design CTQs, score and down-select optimal solutions to meet performance/cost/weight targets and manufacturing capabilities.
* Build and strengthen expertise in legacy and novel manufacturing processes, identifying component validation needs.
* Proactively support and coordinate activities with other departments and suppliers (concurrence design).
* Prepare technical documentation for component design according to engineering policies and procedures (presentations and analysis reports).
* Contribute to and participate as a presenter in technical and program reviews.
* Support source technological substantiation and non-conformances assessment (MRB).
* Support development findings, component performance investigations, test requests, data post-processing, and laboratory investigations.
* Support cost-out activities, identifying opportunities and leading design tasks for implementation (e.g., concurrence, analyses, DEC).
* Proficiently use available design CAD tools (Unigraphics NX).
Qualifications/Requirements
* Master’s degree in mechanical or aeronautical engineering from an accredited university.
* Experience in mechanical design of complex aeronautical gearbox static structures components.
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes for static structure components (including castings).
* Proficient in CAD tools (e.g., Unigraphics NX).
* English and Italian language knowledge, both written and oral.
* Work visa in accordance with local regulations is required.
Desired Characteristics
* Clear thinking, diligent, target oriented, curious and passionate about mechanical design.
* Good interpersonal skills, teamwork and inclusiveness.
* Knowledge of aeronautical power gearbox technical requirements and design solutions.
* Experience in mechanical design of complex products and New Product Introduction processes.
* Experience with CAE tools (e.g., Nastran, Ansys).
* Experience in multicultural or international environments is preferable.
