EXCAVATOR OPERATOR
Summary: Operate an excavator and other heavy equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, highways, parking lots, and other large site projects. The ideal candidate will have experience digging for deep sewer lines and working around trench boxes, pipes, and personnel in the hole.
Essential Functions:
1. Operate an excavator and other heavy equipment used in road, site, or highway construction and paving.
2. Follow daily procedures and protocols as outlined in job orientations and trainings, or as directed by the supervisor.
3. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; report defects or repairs needed to the supervisor; clean equipment.
4. Assist in installing and maintaining traffic control devices.
5. Perform manual labor tasks involving strenuous effort on heavy, road, highway, residential, or commercial construction projects; prepare surfaces for paving.
6. Adhere to company and OSHA safety procedures.
7. Follow proper incident reporting procedures.
8. Work independently and complete daily activities according to schedule.
Job Requirements:
1. High School Diploma, GED, or Trade School certification.
2. Valid Driver's License.
3. At least five years of experience operating an excavator for underground utilities in road construction.
4. Proficiency in operating an excavator for deep sewer work and around trench boxes, pipes, and workers.
5. Knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.
6. Ability to operate equipment under various working conditions.
7. Understanding of hazards and safety precautions related to heavy equipment operation, as well as street and road construction materials and tools.
8. Capability to perform manual work requiring physical exertion and exposure to weather conditions.
9. Ability to interpret construction specifications or blueprints.
