Product Line Overview
Wabtec Transit Brakes & Couplers is a world leader in the supply of braking systems and couplers for all types of trains, on all continents. With more than a century of expertise, our braking systems range from brake manipulators to friction materials, air supply systems, brake control and bogie brake equipment. We deliver the widest range of couplers, covering most world standards. We are a leader in innovation, with the aim of making rail more attractive, more competitive over the whole life cycle and more sustainable.
How will you make a difference (Job summary)?
As an Air Supply product manager, you will work with an interdisciplinary team of sales and marketing, product engineers, sourcing, product quality, and other functions to deliver best-in-class quality for the backlog, and to create the product roadmap for the short and long term, ensuring that we keep an adequate balance of Technology Push (to ensure that our products set standards and continue to surprise and inspire our customers) and Market Pull (to ensure we deliver on what customers expect).
You will own the product catalogue for Air Supply (its definition, maintenance, and continuous improvement) and you will contribute to defining the rules and processes for the product catalogue management.
You will own the complete lifecycle of the products:
1. Ensuring they meet the current and anticipated market needs.
2. Ensuring an adequate time-to-market, while meeting Quality and Cost requirements; we are on a journey to decrease time-to-market and you will have a key role in the success of this journey.
3. Monitoring product performance in terms of cost competitiveness, suitability for manufacturing, quality and reliability, and leading the definition of correction plans as necessary.
4. Monitor the use and re-use in tenders and projects, and the evolution of product configurations in applications; identify root causes for low re-use rate or for the creation of a multiplicity of variants, and lead the definition of correction plans as necessary.
Your attitude and energetic approach will motivate all colleagues working on air supply to challenge the status quo, benchmark against competitors, and deliver top performance.
You will work within a dynamic product management team, along product managers for other product groups, driving the product management function to new standards in terms of ownership and contribution to the business. In this journey, you will contribute to the definition and update of rules and processes for product management.
What will be your key Responsibilities?
1. Lead market analysis to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape.
2. Engage with customers and stakeholders to gather feedback and drive continuous improvement.
3. Develop profitable business cases and product plans, overseeing the selection, definition, development, validation, scheduling, and market introduction of products.
4. Develop and execute product strategies and roadmaps, covering the whole lifecycle, and in close cooperation with services product management.
5. Oversee the development and lifecycle management of products and their use in systems.
6. Manage product development projects from concept to launch, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams in the requirements management process - from defining product requirements and specifications, to verification and validation.
8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, specially operations, in the definition and evolution of the operations' footprint for the product family.
9. Work closely with engineering, quality, sourcing, project management and operations teams to ensure product performance and reliability.
10. Monitor product performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
11. Drive continuous improvement in the competitiveness of our products, working closely with operations and sourcing focusing on areas such as LCC, RAMS, engineering, manufacturing, methods, suppliers.
12. Prepare and present product updates and reports to senior leaders.
13. Communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap with key stakeholders across various functions.
14. Ensure that standard products are used in tenders and projects, and that these standards meet the tenders and projects needs.
15. Establish and maintain strong relationships with sales, engineering, technical product management, to align on strategy, foster innovation, and promote best practices.
What do we want to know about you and your experience?
1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
2. 10+ years of proven experience in product management, business development or related functions, preferably in the railway or automotive industry.
3. Preferably, strong understanding of the railway market.
4. Preferably, knowledge of Agile development methodologies, ideally applies to complex systems and in regulated environments.
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and good judgment for complex business decisions and strategic planning.
6. Leadership experience to successfully coordinate multidisciplinary, multicultural global teams.
7. Ability to get-things-done and challenge the status-quo. Entrepreneurial spirit.
8. Strong strategic thinking and influencing skills.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
10. Excellent project management skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and international team environment.
