Position Summary

The Business Development Manager – Italy will be responsible for driving B2B business growth across the Italian pharmaceutical market through licensing, distribution partnerships, out-licensing, in-licensing, co-development opportunities, and strategic collaborations.

The role will own the commercial development of the Italian territory, including pipeline generation, partner identification, contract negotiations, portfolio expansion, market intelligence, and achievement of annual revenue targets. The position will work closely with Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Finance, Legal, and Portfolio Management teams to ensure successful execution of commercial opportunities and long-term business growth.


Responsibilities: Business Development & Revenue Growth


  • Develop and execute the annual business development strategy for Italy in line with company objectives.
  • Achieve annual revenue, gross profit, licensing, and portfolio expansion targets.
  • Identify, evaluate, and secure new B2B opportunities including licensing, distribution, commercialization, co-development, and supply agreements.
  • Identify and establish relationships with pharmaceutical companies, distributors, wholesalers, marketing authorization holders, and potential licensing partners in Italy.
  • Manage existing business relationships and ensure achievement of agreed commercial objectives.
  • Coordinate with Regulatory Affairs teams regarding registration opportunities, submission planning, approvals, and lifecycle management
  • Support partners during registration activities where required.
  • Monitor launch readiness and ensure successful commercialization of new products.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities to support product launches and supply continuity.
  • Prepare monthly business development reports, forecasts, and pipeline updates.
  • Track and manage KPIs related to sales, licensing, launches, and partnership development.
  • Present territory performance, opportunities, and risks to senior management.
  • Maintain CRM and opportunity management systems.


Skills/Abilities

  • Highly effective communication skills and the confidence and cultural sensitivity to work effectively across a global enterprise

  • Business acumen, Attention to detail; oral/written communications.
  • Strong basic computer & presentation skills.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or in a collaborative environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and business analytics tools.


Experience and Qualifications required

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Business Administration, or related field.
  • MBA or equivalent commercial qualification preferred.
  • 5–10 years of experience in pharmaceutical business development, licensing, commercial operations, or alliance management.
  • Strong understanding of the Italian pharmaceutical market.
  • Experience working with generic, specialty, or branded pharmaceutical products.
  • Knowledge of AIFA regulatory framework and Italian reimbursement systems is desirable.
  • Fluency in English; Italian language skills strongly preferred.
